Soccer

The UNC Pembroke women's soccer team will go dancing this year after they took down Belmont Abbey in the Conference Carolina's Championship game this past weekend. A goal 34 seconds in by Ashleigh Harris set the tone for the rest of the match. An Abigail Lowry goal two minutes later set up a comfortable lead for the Braves.

The second half saw the Braves be alert on defense with a quick goal by the Crusaders quickly made it 2-1. This would come to be the final score as the Braves claimed their third straight Conference title and will draw the #7 seed in the Southeast region of the 2023 NCAA Division II women's soccer tournament where they will face #2 seeded Catawba.

The first round is set for tonight at 6 p.m. Best of luck to the team tonight and as always GO BRAVES.

UNCP vs Mount Olive (Volleyball)

Pembroke will continue to be title town this fall as the UNC Pembroke volleyball team will add other accomplishments to their season. Last night they wrapped up the regular season with a huge 3-1 win over Mount Olive with huge Conference Carolina implications on the line.

The Braves will finish the regular season with a 18-13 overall record and a Conference Carolina record of 12-5 before heading into the upcoming tournament. The Braves claimed the #4 seed and will have a 1st round bye as they host the second round here at home at 3pm on Sunday.

Under first year head coach Jaleesa Harper the Braves will await the winner of #10 King University and #9 Chowan who will play each other at UNC Pembroke at 12pm on Sunday.

The winner of the Braves/ Chowan/King will advance to the Quarterfinals on the 17th at the North Charleston Athletic Center in South Carolina where they will face the winner of Francis Marion/Barton/Young Harris.

That's all for now.

UNCP vs Duke (M. Basketball Exhibition)

Not a lot of Division II schools get the chance to go against a team like Duke, but UNC Pembroke got the chance as they took a trip up to Durham, NC to take on the #2 ranked Blue Devils in the iconic Cameron Indoor Stadium. As a fan of basketball, myself I was blessed and honored to cover that game and it was an experience that I have never seen before. The Blue Devils ended up taking this one in the end 109-64 but I know that every player on that Braves squad was excited to get to either play against some of their favorite college players or play against their favorite college team. Even players that are Carolina fans getting to say they played against Duke is truly something memorable.

The pre-season matchups have officially wrapped up for UNCP as now the real thing starts as they will take a trip down to Lakeland, Florida where they will compete in a two-day HOF Classic when they take on the #20 ranked Emporia State on Saturday at 8pm. They will finish on Sunday at 5:45 when they take on Florida Southern.
